You'll hear a lot of terms when shopping for hardwood floors. To clear things up, depend on Hampshire Hardwoods to define the characteristics the industry measures - and tell you how Hampshire Hardwoods offerings measure up.
Find an Installer
We encourage the use of a professional installer and finisher and work with many in the Northeast. Be sure to discuss with them or others the exact look and feel you want to achieve. We by no means are discouraging the "would be homeowner" to do this on their own but we do want to emphasize that installation and finishing are two inherently differing skill sets.

Types of Cuts
Wood is cut one of three ways - Plainsawn, Quartersawn or Riftsawn. Plainsawn is the most common. Its first cut is made on a tangent to the circumference. Each succeeding cut is made parallel to the first.

Radiant Heat
Heat Today in North America radiant heat is becoming ever more popular. You'll find it being used under solid wood flooring everywhere. Radiant heating turns surface areas such as floor, walls and ceilings into large, low-temperature radiators. They surround a person with warmth.
